Gale warnings for Tropical Cyclone Pola

Tropical Cyclone Pola Category 1 (previously called TD11F) was located near latitude 16.8 south, longitude 176.1 west or 305km northwest of Vava'u or 380km north northwest of Ha'apai at 1:00am this morning.

This system is gradually moving south southwest at the speed of 06 knots (11km/hr). The maximum winds near the center is about 30 knots (55 km/hr) with momentary gust up to 40-45 knots (74-83km/hr).

On its current track, TC Pola is expected to lie at about 285km west of Vava'u or 260km northwest of Ha'afeva or 280km west north west of Lifuka at 1:00pm today. Heavy rain and gale force winds may start to affect Vava'u and Ha'apai this morning.

 A gale warning remains inforce for all of Tonga land areas and coastal waters.

A heavy rain warning and flash flood advisories remain in force for the Niuas, Vava'u and Ha'apai.

A heavy damaging swell remains in force for all of Tonga coastal waters.
