The 79th birthday of Emperor Akihito of Japan was celebrated in Tonga with a reception hosted by the new Japanese Ambassador to Tonga, HE Dr Kazuchika Hamuro on 28 November, at his residence in ’Anana, and attended by Tonga’s King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u, when guest speakers noted the strengthening of diplomatic ties between Tonga and Japan. Prince Georg von Habsburg of Hungary visits Tonga

His Imperial and Royal Highness Prince Georg von Habsburg (46) of the Republic of Hungary was on two days visit to Nuku’alofa over the weekend, promoting bilateral relations between Hungary and Tonga.

Princess Regent opens new Legislative Assembly

Tonga’s Princess Regent HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita arrived in pouring rain to open the first session Tonga’s Legislative Assembly under the new system of government, shortly after 10:00am today at Parliament House, Nuku’alofa.

During Tonga’s coronation celebrations 270 people were named to receive honours, with many attending the investiture ceremony at the Royal Palace on July 31. Topping the medal list was HM King George Tupou V, himself, and his mother HM Queen Halaevalu Mata’aho.
