Electricity price decrease

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

ELECTRICITY TARIFF EFFECTIVE FROM 1 JULY 2023

The Competent Authority has approved a decrease in the regulated price of diesel effective 19 June 2023. This has contributed to a decrease of 29.17 seniti per litre from the last regulated price of diesel in March 2023.

We are on a quarterly review of the regulated price of fuel which has decreased the tariff by 4.28 seniti per kWh (4.7%). The total electricity tariff will decrease from the current 91.86 seniti per kWh to 87.58 seniti per kWh.

The new starting tariff of 87.58 seniti/kWh is the new electricity tariff to adopt by Tonga Power Limited and will be reviewed on a quarterly basis with respect to the movement in diesel prices and also on an annual basis according to the movements in inflation.

The overall Power Generation from Renewable Energy (RE) Sources averages 14% of TPL’s total monthly power generation its impact on their prices is included in this tariff calculation
The revised tariff rates approved by the Energy Commission are as follows: -

NOTE: The Electricity Tariff is regulated by the Energy Act 2021 and administered by the Energy Commission. A process set down in the Concession Agreement between Tonga Power Limited and the Energy Commission determines the tariff adjustment. The Competent Authority is the Tongan Government Agency that sets the landed price of diesel which Tonga Power Limited uses for its power generation.
