The King and the Government of Tonga should allow the people to elect all the members of the Tongan parliament, Dr Sitiveni Halapua told the Tongan Legislative Assembly today (5 October 2006).... At question time a People's Representative 'Akilisi Pohiva asked how deeply had the NPCR and the people discussed Section 75 of the Constitution - the right of members of parliament to impeach Cabinet Ministers, because there had been 10 impeachment cases since 1912, but no ministers had ever been impeached in Tonga.

There is no security threat in Tonga, Forum leaders have been assured, and the Pacific Islands Forum meeting is still scheduled to be held in Nuku'alofa from October 23-25, Tonga's Prime Minister Hon. Dr Feleti Sevele told the Tongan parliament yesterday. There was reported concern by Pacific Leaders for their safety while attending the Forum Meeting because of threats of protest by a pro-political reform group.

Only Tongan Politics can have the pleasure of working less and have less responsbility and accountability but still get paid more than the average Civil Servant who relies on their every selfish decisions made in Parliament. In one of its first big decisions of 2006, Tonga's parliament has decided to work less for more pay. The working days of the legislative assembly have been reduced from a four-days week to three-days week, starting on August 1.
