Seven countries including Tonga have ratified the PACER-Plus agreement which will come into effect 60 days after the eighth country ratifies it.

All 2020 Championship events, including the Polynesian Championships to be held in Nuku'alofa, have been cancelled due to CoViD-19, the Oceania Athletics Association (OAA) stated on August 26.

Tonga is struggling to take full control of the harvesting and the exporting of its Bech-de-mer (sea cucumber) resources to reap its fair share of foreign currency earnings from its export. A 47-year-old man was sentenced today at the Supreme Court to two-years imprisonment for two counts of serious indecent assault of a woman in Tongatapu.

A woman whose flowering trees and plants on a Puke allotment were destroyed by a neighbour who had an interest in the land, has won an appeal in the Supreme Court to receive compensation for the loss of the plants in her private garden. The case involved two parties who had been given informal rights to use the land belonging to Noble Fohe.

It is quite special that this year all the planets are easily visible and also in a configuration which happens infrequently. In December 2020, Jupiter and Saturn will come closer together, until their great conjunction on 22 December 7:37 Tonga time. It will be a spectacular phenomenon, a few days before Christmas. Southern Tonga has experienced extreme rainfall this week that was close to the record, for a 24 hour period in the current “dry season”. A La Niña Alert for October-December 2020, further increases the chances of above average rainfall across Tonga.
