A reckless impatient driver caused the death of a child by overtaking and travelling at a speed through Tatakamotonga village in a vehicle that he knew had faulty brakes, The 28-year-old man was sentenced to two years six months imprisonment, which was fully suspended by the judge, who urged drivers to exercise more care and attention, “and most importantly restraint and patience,” with so many vehicles are on Tonga's roads.

A team of 35 medical professionals from Open Heart International (OHI) in Australia are currently in Tonga performing open heart surgery on locals with rheumatic heart disease. The lead surgeon stressed that Tongans need to try and prevent acute rheumatic fever, a disease that occurs from having tonsillitis that is not treated with antibiotics early enough.

Arrangements for the state funeral of the late Prime Minister Hon. 'Akilisi Pohiva who died in Auckland last week, are expected to be confirmed by the Prime Minister's Office on Monday 16 September. A tentative programme released at the weekend stated that the funeral party will depart at 2:00pm on Tuesday from RNZAF Whenuapai Airport, with repatriation by the Royal New Zealand Airforce, arriving in Tonga at a time to be confirmed, with interment on Thursday.

Queen Nanasipau‘u was one of three Presenters who offered different perspectives of the compositions which form an important part of Tonga’s cultural heritage.
