Crucial generator parts are expected to arrive from Germany tomorrow, Saturday. Tonga Power Ltd. has been waiting for the parts needed to fix two electrical generators that went down, forcing some load shedding or rolling power cuts on Tongatapu at peak times since the beginning of May. After repairs, power generation should be back to normal in mid-June.

Ensign Mary Melenaite Tufui Likio ‘Fui’ McCray was commissioned as the first female Tongan officer in U.S. Navy history, on 29 April, at the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, in California. McCray, who was born in Long Beach, dedicated her story of success to her late father, Alifeleti Likio, from Kolomotu’a, Tongatapu.

The Tonga Government will respect the decisions of the courts on electoral petitions, the Prime Minister, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku, stated today after the Supreme Court voided the election of his Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Poasi Tei this morning. The PM made his statement after the May 16 date set by the Speaker for unseating members, in line with the court decisions, was deferred today “until further notice”.
