Fourteen-year-old Noelani Day has made history becoming the youngest person to complete the 22.3km Apolima Strait Solo Swim, placing third overall in Samoa, on Friday 6 April. She completed the swim in 8 hours, 11 minutes, and 12 seconds. Battling severe conditions, Noelani dedicated her swim to Tongan girls and youth in sports - to encourage them to always pursue their dreams no matter what obstacles are before them.

Four young athletes are representing Tonga at the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) that opened on 18 July in the Bahamas. From two sports, boxing and swimming, they are Noelani Day, Finau ‘Ohuafi and Iki Tu’itavake Jr, with a boxer Tu’ihalangingie Vea.

A Tongan team of four young swimmers came first in the team relays at the Apolima Strait Crossing, a 22.3km open water swim from Upolu Island to Savaii in Samoa on 11 April.

Finau ‘Ohuafi (15) and Noelani Day (13) achieved their personal best when they represented Tonga at the FINA 5km New Zealand Open Water Championships in Lake Taupo, on 15 January.
