Volcanic activities at Home Reef Volcano in Tonga is continuing and thermal anomaly is still observed up to the present day, the Geohazards Team of the Tonga Geological Services reported today. “We still see no indicators for major explosive eruptions at this point.” However, all Mariners are advised to remain at least 2 nautical miles away from Home Reef until further notice

The Home Reef volcano has shown a slight increase in thermal anomalies to a moderate stage, Tonga Geological Services reported today, 26 June. Monitoring of the volcano is ongoing daily. The volcanic activity poses a low risk to the Vava’u and Ha’apai Communities, while a hazard warning remains in force for mariners in the area.

One more volcanic eruption was detected in the past 24 hours from Home Reef and prior to this were five eruptions, Tonga Geological Services reported today. Home reef is located soutwest of late Island in the Vava’u Group and mariners are still required to remain at least 4km away from the area.
