The death of a former Prime Minister of Tonga and the current Tongatapu 10 People’s Representative to the Tonga Legislative Assembly, Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa (71) was confirmed today. He passed away yesterday, in the United States, where he had gone for medical reasons.

Former Prime Minister and Tongatapu No. 10 People’s Representative, Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa retains his seat in the Legislative Assembly, after his appeals were upheld by the Appeal Court on 9 August. Two other Tongatapu People's Representatives also keep their seats, after appeals against them were dismissed.

The election of Dr Pohiva Tu’i'onetoa as the Tongatapu No.10 People’s Representative to the Legislative Assembly has been declared void by a Supreme Court judge, who this afternoon found that the former Prime Minister committed the offence of bribery on one occasion, in the lead up to the November 2021 General Election.
