Peace Corps/Tonga places American Volunteers in assignments in rural villages and peri-urban locations across the country.
The United States Peace Corps seeks a Program Manager Environment to serve as a full-time, long-term personal services contractor based in the Nuku’alofa Office.
Program Manager – Environment Summary
Under the authority of the Peace Corps Country Director (CD), the Program Manager-Environment (PM-ENV) assumes responsibility for the design, implementation, and management of Peace Corps/Tonga’s Community Environmental Resilience Project, and the supervision of and support for the Volunteers working in the environment sector. The position reports to the Peace Corps/Tonga (PC/Tonga) Director of Programming and Training (DPT).

Minimum Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Speaks, reads, and writes Tongan fluently.
- Speaks, reads, and writes English at or above an upper intermediate level.
- Five years of experience in planning and managing sector-related programs within the last ten years.
- One year of experience working in the Pacific sub-region.
- A bachelor’s degree in a field related to Environmental Resilience (examples: Environmental Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Policy, Emergency Management, Disaster Science).
- Demonstrated organizational and/or documentation skills.
- Professional level computing skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (must provide proof in application) and availability to travel (driving 4x4 official vehicles with manual transmissions) throughout Country, 50-60% of the time, including overnight.
- Citizen of Tonga.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience teaching/training youth or adults on environmental awareness, environmental resilience, sustainable agriculture, and/or disaster risk reduction.
- Ability to use the Tongan oratory language and customs in a leadership capacity in a village.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as in a group setting.
- Willingness to take calls, work, and travel during odd hours and weekends.
- Experience working with volunteer programs.
- Experience working with Americans and an understanding of American culture.
- Citizen of Tonga.
Renumeration: Salary offered will be based on salary history with relevant experience. Starting annual salary range will fall between 40,316 – 50,997 TOP. Position also includes medical benefits, retirement contributions, and additional benefits to be clarified on the final contract.
Supervision: This position works alongside the Program Training Specialist (PTS) for Environment and reports directly to the Director of Programming and Training (DPT)

Programming and Training Specialist Summary
The Programming and Training Specialist-Education (PTS-ED) serves as programming, training, and administrative support for implementing the Peace Corps Tonga (PC/Tonga) education program—Primary School English Education Project. The PTS-ED serves as the lead technical trainer and supports grants management for the education sector. Successful completion of the duties will contribute to the efficient management of PC/Tonga education project activities. The position reports to the Peace Corps/Tonga (PC/Tonga) Director of Programming and Training (DPT).

Minimum Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Speaks, reads, and writes the local language fluently.
- Speaks, reads, and writes English at or above an intermediate level.
- Three years of experience working in the Education sector, preferably delivering teacher training, technical education content, and/or leading experiential learning with youth or adults.
- One year of experience working in the Pacific Sub-Region.
- Diploma in Education (bachelor’s degree preferred) and/or a related field.
- Computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office.
- A driver’s license and availability to travel (driving 4x4 official vehicles with manual transmissions) throughout Country, 50-60% of the time, including overnight.
- Citizen of Tonga.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of and demonstrated skills in applying adult learning methodologies and behavior change strategies in a school environment.
- Knowledge of the state of education in Tonga, including educational methodologies, and English instruction for children and adults.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as in a group setting.
- Willingness to take calls, work, and travel during odd hours and weekends.
- Experience working with volunteer programs.
- Experience working with Americans and an understanding of American culture.
