“A Clarification
Various sections of the media have drawn attention to the Government press release titled …His Majesty wants relief for electricity consumers’, published on May 26th. It is possible that some media organizations received a version of the text that may have been inadvertently inserted, in a template that was dated 16th of May, a clerical oversight that obviously does not reflect accurately the unfolding of subsequent events.
For the record, His Majesty’s Cabinet decided on Wednesday May 25th on a plan of action to bring relief to electricity consumers. The press release of May 26th announced this very important decision through various media outlets, including the Government’s official website at pmo.gov.to.
Any inference that Government met on a Sunday several weeks ago to discuss specifically the electricity tariff issue is therefore not correct, and any ambiguity that may have arisen therefrom is sincerely regretted.- Issued by: The Information Unit, Prime Minister’s Office, Nuku’alofa, Tonga.”
