To address emerging regional challenges like oil supply issues and matters regarding peace, Pacific Islands Forum Troika leaders met in Fiji this week, discussing challenges and reinforcing the importance of unity, strong leadership, and collective action for navigating the Pacific's future, in an increasingly uncertain global landscape.
The discussions, chaired by Solomon Islands PM Hon. Jeremiah Manele, were focused on peace in the Pacific, preparations for oil supply challenges, COP31, and other key regional priorities.
Leaders also addressed global developments, including the Middle East crisis, noting potential impacts on fuel and food security, and agreed to pursue a coordinated regional response.

Tonga's PM Lord Fakafanua attended the meeting, accompanied by Chief Secretary & Secretary to Cabinet, Paula Ma'u.
Fiji PM Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka also made a brief appearance to give an update on upcoming Pre-COP31 meetings to be held in Fiji in October, while Australia's Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Hon. Chris Bowen, joined virtually to give updates on COP31.
Australia is the President of Negotiations for COP31 to be held in November 2026, in Türkiye, partnering with the Pacific to elevate regional climate concerns.
Following these engagements, the PM Lord Fakafanua will proceed to Dallas, Texas, arriving on 18 April, to participate in the Earth 2026 Conference. He has been invited to speak for the third consecutive year and will also chair the Nature Summit as part of the programme.
