About the Climate Finance Capacity Support Programme

DT Global delivers the Capacity Support Programme for MFAT. The scope of this programme is quite broad as its aim is to be responsive to the needs of Pacific Island countries. It includes providing personnel or training to assist with:

  • delivering and reporting on the flexible finance provided by MFAT;
  • developing/updating national climate change plans and reporting frameworks;
  • developing an investment-ready pipeline of projects;
  • delivering climate change priorities;
  • improving climate finance reporting; and
  • accessing a broader range of climate finance funding.

About the Role

The National Indicators Compiler Assistant will support the Assistant Government Statistician (AGS) compile, manage, and ensure the quality and consistency of national indicators. A key responsibility of this role is to ensure that these indicators effectively meet national development objectives and comply with regional and global reporting requirements. The role involves working closely with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to assess and refine indicator frameworks at both national and sub-national levels.

The assistant will provide technical guidance to MDAs in developing indicators and metadata while also supporting the implementation of the Tonga National Indicator Strategy. Stakeholder engagement is a key responsibility, involving coordination with development partners, regional organizations, and government agencies to ensure cohesive reporting and data-sharing practices. Essential Experience and Knowledge

  • Excellent communication with fluency in both English and Tongan.
  • Strong understanding of the role of indicators in policy monitoring and sustainable development.
  • Experience in data analysis, indicator compilation, and data management.
  • Ability to work collaborative with various stakeholders and teams.
  • Experience in organising and delivering training programs.
  • Strong consultation, coordination and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with regional and international development frameworks (eg.s SDGs, Pacific Indicator Guidelines)
  • Experience working with statistical offices, government ministries, or development organisations.
