King Tupou VI opened Tongatapu’s two-day Agricultural Show 2014 today, Friday 22 August at the Funga-Mana-Mo’ui Grounds in ‘Atele.
Accompanied by Queen Nanasipau’u and Prince Ata, the King delivered a speech before inspecting a colourful display of traditional food crops, seafood, handmade handicrafts and livestock.
Happy women from Tongatapu villages showcased their beautiful tapa cloths, fine woven mats and handicrafts. Farmers and fishermen also turned out with an abundance of local produce from vegetables, food crops to fish, seafood and livestock. Local products and services were also on show. The sun was shining for the opening this year, unlike last year's heavy rain for the show day.
The show which ends on Saturday, 23 August concludes this year's Agricultural Shows for all of Tonga's islands.
The king has also opened the shows in Niuatoputapu, Niuafo'ou, Vava'u and 'Eua.
