• Country Programme Officer
Climate-Smart Pacific Food Systems Programme
(2025 – 2028)
We’re looking for a dynamic and dedicated individual to support the delivery of our Climate-Smart Pacific Food Systems Programme in The Kingdom of Tonga. This role will focus on building strong local partnerships, facilitating participatory research, and promoting climate adaptation solutions that enhance the resilience of Pacific food systems.
You’ll coordinate activities, engage with stakeholders, support community-driven research, and help integrate Indigenous knowledge with scientific expertise to implement climate-resilient practices. Your work will also include fostering gender equality, disability, and social inclusion in programme efforts, while promoting knowledge sharing and capacity building for long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Nishi Trading Ltd and the New Zealand Institute of Plant and Food Research to deliver programme activities (eg research and demonstration trials)
- Support climate-smart agriculture and adaptation strategies
- Facilitate participatory engagement with farmers
- Ensure integration of local knowledge systems and GEDSI principles
- Monitor progress, report on outcomes, and promote capacity building
Skills & Experience:
- Tertiary qualification in agriculture, environmental science, climate change, or a related field
- Experience in community engagement in Tonga
- Strong project coordination, reporting, and communication skills
- Familiarity with climate-smart agriculture and adaptation strategies
Salary range: Salary per annum will be in the range of TOP$48,000 – 60,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
