    : Ana Waalkens spent a week in Auckland City Hospital's intensive care unit after falling ill days after a growing Delta outbreak was discovered in Auckland in August - and before the 38-year-old was eligible to be vaccinated. Waalkens is telling her story because she wants everyone, especially fellow Pasifika - she has Tongan heritage - to get vaccinated so they don't suffer as she and her family had.     : The Pacific has demanded that world leaders at the upcoming COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow must draw a line under new coal, oil and gas projects and immediately end fossil fuel subsidies if the Pacific islands are to remain above the sea with their cultures preserved. The Pacific Islands Climate Action Network, which is made up of civil society groups from across the Pacific, including Greenpeace, has outlined its demands for a successful COP26 climate summit and near the top of the list is an immediate end to fossil fuel projects and subsidies.

    : The Pacific is likely to experience a rare occurrence of what is called a double dip La Niña in the coming months, Climate models and predictions tools used by Pacific National Meteorological and Hydrological services (NMHSs) show. As a result, Pacific Island countries in the Central Pacific region such as Kiribati, Nauru and Tuvalu may experience below normal rainfall during this period, while islands in the South West Pacific will experience higher than normal rainfall, such as Fiji, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.

    : Penisimani Angilau received a suspended sentence today for causing serious bodily harm to another man, when he hit him with a piece of timber fracturing his left hand during an argument at a petrol station at Vaini. The Supreme Court judge ruled this as a case of special circumstances because the offender was provoked when the complainant jumped into the queue at the petrol station and refused to back off.

    : After the Prime Minister's Office announced yesterday the Government's approval for a multi-million dollar redevelopment of the Lupepau'u Airport, Vava'u, citing a private proposal involving Tongan nationals and foreign investment, they have further clarified today that a full proposal has not been received. Chief Secretary and Secretary to Cabinet, Edgar Cocker told Matangi Tonga this morning that their press release did not mean that Government had granted approval for a recently formed company Raw Mana Ltd. to undertake the project.

    : Around 31,600 doses of the Pfizer vaccine arrived from New Zealand last night, and started to roll out today for inoculations of 12 to 17-year-olds and pregnant women in Tonga. There is huge demand and competition for the Pfizer vaccine globally, and the Prime Minister, the Minister of Health and Tonga's CEO of Health all thanked New Zealand for making this “important gift”, which placed Tonga among the few privileged countries of the world to have it.
