Ways to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in Tonga’s waters to protect tuna resources were discussed at a three day workshop held by Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) officials in Tonga from 25-29 January 2016, when a new monitoring strategy was implemented.

Ika Moana 2013, a new multi-national maritime surveillance exercise, led by the Tonga Defence Services (Navy) to combat illegal fishing and crime at sea has over the past 10-days enforced law in Tonga’s Exclusive Economic Zone. The surveillance could become an annual exercise after it ends on Friday, September 20.
