Tonga’s fourth contingent of 55 soldiers to Afghanistan returned safely to Tonga on Friday 16 November, after six-months duty in Helmand Province, under a NATO led-mission. Medals of recognition will be presented to the contingent by Rt Hon. Andrew Robathan MP, the Minister of State for the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom, at Taliai Camp, Fua’amotu, on Thursday 22 November.
Tongan soldiers serving with security forces at Camp Bastion military compound in Afghanistan are safe today, after there was a complex attack by heavily armed insurgents on an area of the camp on Friday night, in which two U.S. Marines were killed and several more wounded.
