The project aims to construct climate-resilient schools, with an initial focus on Tonga, Cambodia, and South Sudan, as pilot countries, to benefit four million safer schoolchildren, setting a precedent for global collaboration toward a resilient educational future.

At the Nature Plenary of the World Climate Action Summit, at COP28, on 2 December, Tonga's Prime Minister Hon. Hu’akavameiliku introduced, to world leaders, the region's ‘Unlocking Blue Pacific Prosperity’ initiative, to rejuvenate and protect the Blue Pacific Continent for future generations. Pacific leaders are making a direct appeal to global partners to actively join the Pacific to turn the tide for the benefit of the Pacific region and the planet.

A State of the Global Climate report confirms that 2023 is set to be the warmest year on record. Data until the end of October shows that the year was about 1.40 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial levels, delegates at COP28 heard. Tonga's Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku and delegates, are in Dubai for the 28th meeting of the United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP28) that runs from 30 November to 12 December.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga
The popular beachfront at Popua in the capital, Nuku'alofa, is looking cleaner today, thanks to a group of university students from New Zealand who decided to spend their last day in Tonga picking up rubbish. The group of 15 young women from throughout New Zealand, led by Leata Loelu, have spent a fortnight in Tonga engaging in community services.
