Part-Time Language and Cultural Facilitator

SALARY RANGE: TOP 65 - 93 Daily Rate (dependent on experience)

The United States Peace Corps/Tonga is looking for two qualified persons to fill the position of Peace Corps Part Time - Language and Culture Facilitator (LCF) for trainings in 2026.  These are part-time, non-permanent, positions. These Part-Time LCFs will be trained as LCFs but only asked to work in the event they are needed during pre-service training of new Peace Corps Trainees.

Job Purpose

All  LCFs work closely with the Language and Cultural Coordinator (LCC), and the Training Manager to plan, implement, and evaluate the Language and Culture portion of about a 14-week training (from June 01 to September 04, 2026) for newly arrived American Volunteers who will be living in Tonga for the next two years.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree (must indicate in the cover letter).

Experience
A balanced mix of:

  • Experience in language tutoring or teaching (must indicate in the cover letter).
  • Experience in instructional learning materials or resources.
  • Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (must indicate in the cover letter).

Skills

  • Advanced level skills in speaking, reading and writing Tongan and English (must indicate language proficiency in the cover letter).
  • Organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Available to work, based on the entire contract dates of June 01, start date to September 04, end date (must indicate in the cover letter).
  • Willingness to be on duty in assigned community-based training site for duration of training (approx. 2 to 3 months).
  • A citizen of host country or has current, valid authorization to work in host country. 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Diploma in education or related fields is an asset.
  • Experience teaching the Tongan language is an asset.
  • Ability and confidence in developing and delivering creative and interactive language lessons using second language methodologies.
  • Willingness to learn and use multi-level and experiential approach to teaching.
  • Knowledge of education system of Tonga and issues affecting students’ language learning.
  • Knowledge of adult education methodologies and formal/non-formal education techniques. 
  • Knowledge of Tonga’s history, geography, cultural traditions/heritage.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility, patience, open-mindedness, respect, cultural sensitivity, among others, when carrying out roles/responsibilities and when supporting PCTs.
