Tonga fails to qualify at London Sevens [1]

The Tongan Sevens team has failed to qualify as a “Core Team” for the 2013-14 Sevens World Series.
Tonga lost its bid after it was defeated in three of its four pool games yesterday,May 12, and on Saturday. The three defeats came at the hands of Scotland 31 – 0, Portugal 12 – 7 and by Russia 19 – 7. The only win was against Spain 19 -17.
New Zealand won the competition after defeating Australia 47 – 12. They were also declared winners of the 2012-13 Sevens World Series.
A team with a Core Team status has the opportunity to attend all tournaments in the annual Sevens World Series.
Tonga has been ranked poorly by the IRB with 18th place in the 2012-13 World Series.
The Sevens squad will now prepare for the upcoming Rugby Sevens World Cup in Moscow, Russia this June 28 – 30. The pools are:
