Candidates registration welcomes both new and familiar faces [1]

The opening day of candidate’s registration for the general election saw a mix of new candidates and incumbent members who are running for the ten Tongatapu seats of the People’s representatives in Tonga’s Legislative Assembly.
The Prime Minister (incumbent representative for Tongatapu 5), Dr. ‘Aisake Valu Eke registered today, as did Johnny Grattan Vaea Taione, the incumbent representative for Tongatapu 8.
Among the registered candidates was Siueli ‘Eleni Mone, a woman candidate running for the Tongatapu 7 seat.
Siaosi Pohiva, son of former Prime Minister 'Akilisi Pohiva, also registered, standing for the Tongatapu 1 seat.
Today, 8 October, marks the first day of registration for both the Noble’s and People's candidates for the 20 November general election. Registration of candidates closes tomorrow, Thursday, 9 October, 2025.
