Radio Taiso, a popular Japanese radio exercise was introduced in Nuku'alofa last week by visiting "radio exercise" experts to promote healthy living.
A team of two instructors, Takako Hirai, and Naomi Fujimoto accompanied by Chiyuki Kamisaka Executive Board Member, Secretariat of Japan Radio Taiso Federation and Maho Harada, Project Manager, Secretariat of Sport for Tomorrow Consortium in Japan Sport Council, visited for four-days, after arriving on October 16.
They held radio exercises and training for locals at St. Andrews High School, Kolovai village on the western district, and a public demonstration next to the bus station on the Nuku'alofa waterfront.
Mr Yasuhiko Kamada, Acting Ambassador of Japan, said Radio Taiso is a feel good exercise designed for anyone to perform any time at any place, in the interests of your health.
“I hope many will enjoy these moderate and easy moves, which will not only help maintain your physical health but also relieve your mental stress,” he said.
This is an initiative funded by the Government of Japan’s Sport for Tomorrow Program, announced by Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, to share the values of sport with more than 10 million people over 100 countries between 2014 and 2020.
This year is the 90th anniversary of the Radio Taiso.
