A private gift of around 5000 pairs of shoes from Japan are being distributed by the Tonga Red Cross this week to young students at various schools in Tongatapu.
Tonga’s Ambassador to Japan HE Tania Tupou handed over the container of shoes from Mr Noguchi of Niigata to Tonga Red Cross, at Queen Salote Wharf on Friday, July 14.
Another container of shoes has been shipped for distribution to the outer islands.
GPS Lapaha Deputy Principal Piulisi Finau said they were very grateful for this heartfelt donation of valuable new shoes for the children.
“We should appreciate this kind of donation, especially from a person who has not been to Tonga.”
The donor communicated with Tonga’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs before making the gift.
