The official medal tally for Tonga's 93rd Inter-Collegiate Athletics Competition 2017 was held back on Friday for final approval by an official sports committee, to be released to the public some time next week.
The computerized results are tallied every day and interim results of events are announced over the speaker system at the track.
During the four days of competition a team from Oceania Athletics Association came to Tonga and assisted the Inter-Collegiate Athletics Committee with photo finishes, computer entries and results.
Oceania Athletics Executive Director Yvonne Mullins said yesterday that they were fully equipped and used a computer software program that can tally results every day. "But it is up to the committee to release the medal tally to the public," she told Matangi Tonga.
Although the President of the Sports Committee Tungua Tu’akoi claimed that the unofficial results were available for media, his staff compiling the results said they could not release the medal list until it had been officially approved by the committee.
While there have been no official results released, the people working for the sports committee also suggested an impractical solution that news media should tally up their own results, as they cover the 4-days of sports.
