Prince Ata sets in motion Archery Championships [1]

The 2016 Oceania Archery Championships was set in motion yesterday, 11 April at Pangai Lahi, at the Nuku’alofa waterfront by Prince Ata, after he landed the first arrow on target.
It is the first time for an Oceania Archery Championships to be held in Tonga. Fangatukia Tatafu from the Tonga Archery Federation said that this year’s event has been extended to include the Commonwealth Championships and the Continental Qualifying Tournament, and it would run from 11-15 April.
The Oceania Archery Championships is for the Pacific Region, while the Commonwealth Archery Championships are for a qualifying position in the Commonwealth Games and the Continental Qualifying Tournament is for spots for two women and two men in the coming Rio Olympic.
For the Oceania and the Commonwealth Championships there will be male and female events in Open and Youth categories.
In the Continental Qualifying Tournament, there will be heavy competition for two places for women and two men in the Open Category.
The championship attracted 40 archers from Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti and Tonga.
