Tony Finau has hatched his first PGA tour win and a prize of $540,000 after winning the Puerto Rico Open last Sunday, March 27. He now looks for a second career win in the Shell Houston Open where he faces the likes of former PGA champion Phil Mickleson. The four day competition commenced today.

The win raises Tony’s profile as an elite golfer, potentially earning him entry into golf’s most lucrative tournaments such as the PGA championship and US Open.

The 26 year-old was among over a hundred competitors at the Puerto Rico Open. He defeated veteran golfer Steve Marino (36) in the finals of the tournament.

The PGA Tour win has been called a breakthrough for Tony, a win to propel him forward in his journey to become the number one Golfer in the world. The win also makes Tony the first Golfer of Tongan ancestry to win a PGA tour open.

Finau is an American professional golfer born in Salt Lake City, Utah, is of Tongan and American Samoan descent, the first person of such ancestry to play on the PGA Tour.
