Tonga A national rugby league team was overwhelmed by a confederated New South Wales and Queensland team 64-14 at the Teufaiva Stadium yesterday, 24 September.

The New South Wales/Queensland team took control of the game right from kick-off and scored two tries within the first 10 minutes.

It was not entirely a one sided affair, but even though the Tongan boys matched the visitors in size, it was obvious that the visitors had superior skills and fitness.

At half time the score was 36-4 and by full-time it was 64-14.

The current tour of Tonga by the confederated New South Wales and Queensland team is an annual event with the objective of energizing the development of rugby league in Tonga.

Tongan rugby league officials said that the program is now in its third year, and a selected combined team, either from clubs, states or universities visit Tonga. During the past two years Tonga has been the winner of this annual two-games program.

The final game will be played tomorrow Saturday, 26 September at the Teufaiva Stadium between the confederated New South Wales and Queensland team and a Mate Ma’a Tonga which is made up of only local Tongan players.
