EDUCATION COORDINATOR

The Ministry of Education and Training (MET) seeks the services of an Education Coordinator to work under the PMU. The staff at the PMU are working under contracts to manage and implement the projects funded through the grant agent, Save the Children Australia (SCA).

Applicants are invited for the position of Education Coordinator with the Program Management Unit.

1. Responsibilities

  • Support the implementing divisions to deliver the components in an effective and efficient way.
  • Support the Project Coordinator and other PMU personnel with project activities.
  • Provide administrative support to the project.

2. Accountabilities

  • Understanding project management documents such as the Implementation Plan and Budget.
  • Assist the implementing divisions to deliver component activities.
  • Assist PMU in ensuring all relevant stakeholders have a clear picture of the project performance, including potential risks, distribution of responsibilities, and the overall project goals.
  • Contribute to the monitoring of project activities, progress, risks and issues, and provide solutions where applicable.
  • Prepare necessary materials for meetings and workshops.
  • Contribute to the development of the Implementation Plan, Budget, quarterly and annual progress reports, completion reports, and other reports as required.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support to activities.
  • Work collaboratively with external staff, consultants and vendors to ensure implementation of program activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of the PMU.

3. Qualifications/accreditations

Tertiary qualification in project management, education, or related field.

4. Skills and experience

  • At least three years’ experience in project implementation, ideally in education and/or an aid project.
  • Strong interest in primary education improvement, gender equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated skills in administration, logistics, communications and delivery of project activities.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and juggle multiple responsibilities.
  • Competent MS Office skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, solve problems and follow through implementation.
  • Ability to support government personnel to understand and implement the project.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills both in English and Tongan.
  • Able to work harmoniously in a cross-cultural environment.

5. Child protection and safeguarding requirements

  • Safeguard children’s rights and act in the best interests of children at all times.
  • Comply with child safeguarding and protection policies and standards.
  • Maintain a environment at the workplace that is safe from violence, sexual abuse or harassment.
  • Demonstrate the highest standards of behaviour towards children in your private and professional life.
  • Not abuse the position of trust that comes with being a part of the MET and Save the Children family.
  • Maintain a safe and positive relationship at all times when working with children and young people.
  • Respond to any concerns for the safety or wellbeing.
