1. COUNSELLOR
Location: Nuku’alofa
Duration: 12 months with possibility of extension (depending on funding availability)
Supervisor: Senior Counsellor Supervisor
Salary: Salary Range starting at 15,000 - 26,000 (TOP) per annum
Program Summary
The Tonga National Centre for Women and Children Incorporated (TNCWC) is the successor of the "The Centre for Women and Children" founded by Tonga Catholics Women League (Fekau'aki 'a Fafine Katolika) in 1995, a crisis Centre for Women and Children experiencing domestic violence. The Center is non-partisan and a-political. It shall promote its objectives without distinction as to race, language or religion, additionally over the years it has expanded into a multi-denominational center governed by the TNCWC Advisory Board.
The Counsellor is responsible for the provision of counseling services to the clients of the TNCWC and to conduct community outreach and awareness program which support the TNCWC’s objective of Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (EVAW). This position reports directly to the Senior Counsellor Supervisor
Key Responsibilities
Counselling:
- Ability to provide counselling and support services at all times whether physically or via telephone counselling.
- Provide effective home visits.
- Provide non-judgmental, survivors centered counselling services
- Follow-up and refer cases to appropriate stakeholders.
- Recommend clients to undertake Life Skills Programs
- Attend court cases of all TNCWCs clients.
Policy & Confidentiality:
- Carry out the following task in accordance with the TNCWC Policy and guideline
- Promote a culture of confidential and non-judgmental attitude while working with clients.
Data Collection and Reporting:
- Be able to input data and maintain & update the counselling database with the correct statistics
- Keep clear and consistent case notes and write impact reports for individual clients.
Communication:
- Be alert and on call 24/7 in response to the victims of violence and clients of the center
- Be fluent in the Tongan language and can understand and speak in English
- Must be an effective communicator and influential at all levels
- Provide influential and effective Communication at all levels
- Identify training needs to strengthen counselling services.
- Effective networking with other service providers and partners
- Other responsibilities that may be directed by the Senior Counsellor and or Centre Director
Reporting:
- Reports directly to the Senior Counsellor Supervisor
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum of a Graduate Diploma in Counselling (or equivalent)
- Proof of registry as a fully qualified Counsellor
- Experience working with women that have experienced gender-based violence
- Minimum 2 years working as a qualified counsellor or clinical social worker
- A valid driver’s license
- Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
- A working proficiency in the Tongan and English language would be highly valued
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently without supervision
- Previous experience facilitating workshops or trainings
Other Requirements:
- Provide three (3) Reference Letters. Two (2) from the last two Employers and one (1) Character reference from a professional associate
- Possession of a valid driver’s license or ability to attain a license
- Submit a valid Police Record valid for at least the last 3 months from the date of application

Program Summary
