BACKGROUND

Since its inception in 2003 Women’s Rugby League in Tonga has grown rapidly, with increasing representation in the professional ranks of the National Rugby League Women-Australia. The pride of Tonga continues to shine, with more Tongan women and girls showcasing their talent on the world stage.

POSITION SUMARY
The Tonga Women’s Head Coach is responsible for:

  • The performance of the Tonga Women’s Team ensuring the highest level of performance is achieved
  • The design, implementation and management of the coaching component of the Tonga Women’s High-performance
  • Ensuring that identified players are prepared, developed and managed in order for them to reach their capabilities and maximise team success
  • Establishing a culture and style of play which supported by key systems and processes, will contribute to peak performance and development of talented players
  • Enhancing the highest standards of leadership and integrity which reinforce the status and reputation of Rugby League

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL

  • Hold a current high performance rugby league coaching accreditation
  • Experience in coaching senior women teams at elite level and / or representative teams
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of coaching female athletes with extensive creditability
  • Sound understanding of current elite practices and technologies in the area of coaching
  • High level strategic thinking with the ability to focus on the whole business impacts of decisions
  • Demonstrated capability in customised coaching, leadership and mentoring programs
  • Proven ability to motivate, lead and inspire players to achieve optimum results
  • High level communication and negotiation skills
  • Effective team management skills
  • Capacity to formulate, implement and evaluate programs

REQUIRED

  • High Performance Rugby League coaching certificate
  • Record of positive engagement in community promotional activities
  • Experience with change management strategies
  • Experience and understanding Pacific & Polynesian cultures in a professional sporting context
