Tonga Offshore Mining Limited (TOML) is a wholly owned subsidiary of TMC the Metals Company Inc. who is an explorer of seafloor polymetallic nodule deposits, containing rich concentrations of metals. TOML has been granted exclusive rights by the International Seabed Authority to carry out exploration activities within its allocated area in the international seafloor area, thousands of kilometers from Tonga. TOML is sponsored by the Kingdom of Tonga ensuring that Tonga benefits from TOML’s project.

Role Overview

The Project Administrator will be responsible for assisting the TOML Manager maintain its social license and regulatory compliance to operate. The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the Country Manager in developing positive and productive relationships with key stakeholders, including the people of Tonga, the Government of Tonga, regional governing bodies, the International Seabed Authority, local communities, and NGOs with an interest in TOML activities. The role will be responsible for developing and implementing TOML’s extensive community, social and capacity building and educational programmes.

Depending on the successful candidate’s qualification, the position may also support NORI’s and TOML’s extensive scholarship programmes at the University of the South Pacific.

The successful candidate will be a passionate, highly motivated, and well organised individual with excellent written and spoken English and excellent computer skills.

The role is based in Tonga and will require regular engagement with the Tongan community.

Primary Objectives of Role
  • Support TOML’s positive contirbution to Tonga through the delivery of in-country programs
  • Assist with the development and implementation of TOML’s increasing in-country programs and communication, outreach and engagement activities
  • Lead the delivery and implementation of TOML’s Secondary Schools, TNU scholarships and USP scholarships programs
  • Assist the Country Manager identify issues, challenges and opportunities within Tonga and provide strategic advice to the Manager to advance TOML’s objectives
  • Office and administration duties as may assigned by Country Manager from time to time.
Qualifications
  • Candidates must reside in Tonga
  • Relevant qualification or experience working in Government Relations, Community Engagement or a technical qualification relevant to TOML’s project
  • At least 5 years working experience
  • Knowledge of the seafloor minerals industry is an asset
  • Excellent Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook skills
  • Fluent in English and Tongan
  • Valid driver’s license
Knowledge and Experience
  • Good knowledge of key Tongan stakeholders and an ability to establish relationships with them and a demonstrated track record of working collaboratively
  • Experience developing and delivering social, community or training programmes
Salary and Benefits
  • TOP $35,000 - $45,000 plus benefits
