A teenager has died after remaining in a coma for over a week after suffering a violent attack in the Nuku'alofa Central Business District on the night of July 9. Ten male accused, some of them teenagers, were arrested over the weekend and charged with manslaughter in the death of ‘Alani Fuapau (19) whom they allegedly beat and stomped on in Taufa'ahau Road.

Tonga Police are appealing to the public for help in finding a young man, aged in late teens or early 20's, of Tongan or Polynesian appearance who might be connected with the attack of a United States Peace Corps staffer on Saturday morning, 16 July at Sopu. A person of interest was seen in the area wearing dark green patterned shorts and a t-shirt and holding a green towel over his head and face.r

A United States Peace Corps staffer (56) has left Tonga today with her husband after she sustained injuries and bruises to her face in a brutal attack, while jogging on the Sopu waterfront on Saturday morning, 16 July at about 9:30a.m. Tonga Police are searching for a man who attacked the woman from behind, in a secluded area. It is likely that the attacker had blood on his clothing when he left the scene.
