• Shanghai Ocean University Scholarships Offered by His Majesty King Tupou VI for the 2026/2027 Academic Year
The Ministry of Education and Training is honoured to announce the availability of four prestigious scholarships generously offered by Shanghai Ocean University (SOU) to His Majesty King Tupou VI. These scholarships are now open for nomination and selection.
Levels of Study
Scholarships are available for:
Bachelor’s Degree (taught in Chinese)
(Includes 1 academic year of preparatory Chinese language study prior to commencing the degree).
Master’s Degree (Research) (taught in English)
Doctoral Degree (PhD) (taught in English)
Fields of Study
Applicants may pursue studies in the following disciplines:
- Aquaculture
- Biological Science
- Marine Fishery Science and Technology
- Marine Resources and Environment
- Food Science and Engineering
- International Economics and Trade
- Fishery Economics and Management
- Mechanical Design Manufacturing and Automation
- Electrical Engineering and Automation
- Robotics Engineering
- Fishery Economics and Management
- Applied Economics

Application Process
Interested candidates of high academic calibre are invited to complete and submit the official Application Form to the Scholarships Unit, Ministry of Education and Training by Friday, 31 October 2025. Application forms are available at the Scholarship Office.
Required Documents:
- Completed Expression of Interest Form
- Certified academic transcripts and certificates
- Photocopy of valid passport
Shortlisted candidates will be nominated for His Majesty’s final approval. Successful nominees will then proceed to seek formal placement at Shanghai Ocean University.
