Mate Ma‘a Tonga has closed its Rugby League World Cup campaign on a positive note, defeating pool opponents Italy yesterday with a convincing 16 – 0 score-line in Halifax, England.
Tonga scored its three tries in the form of Willie Manu, Daniel Foster and Daniel Tupou.
Despite this decisive victory following a win over the Cook Islands last week, Tonga has failed to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Tonga’s loss to Scotland on November 1 proved to be costly, as the undefeated Scots claimed first place in Pool C, with Tonga settling for second, and Italy third. Scotland will therefore proceed to play New Zealand in the Quarter-Finals this weekend.
