Japan has committed $80,000 pa'anga to finance three major projects at St Joseph's Business College, in Fasi, Nuku'alofa, including a new drainage system in an area that frequently experiences flooding.

In commissioning the projects on February 23, the Japanese Ambassador in Tonga HE Mr Yasuo Takase, said the project upgraded the drainage system and the water supply system for the students toilets, as well as road maintenance works and compaction fill of the compound.

"These are critical areas for improvement in order to provide a better schooling environment for students and teachers. I ask that you take great care in maintaining these new features to ensure future students and teachers will also benefit," he said.

Finau Talia'uli, the Director of Catholic Schools thanked Japan for solving the flooding problem that has plagued the school over the years. Their low lying area experiences flooding once or twice every year due to heavy rain.

The Minister of Finance Hon Sunia Fili also thanked Japan for their assistance.

The project was funded under Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.

St Joseph's is an all girls Catholic College with over 100 students.
