Tonga's team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India starting on October 3-14 is expected to be announced in the first week of September.

Hiko Fungavaka of the Tonga Amateur Sports Association Office TASA confirmed that Tonga would compete in six sports including Rugby 7's, athletics, boxing, swimming, archery and weightlifting.

He said the team would consist of just over 20 members, one each from archery, swimming, weightlifting, athletics, six boxers and a 12 members Rugby 7s squad.

The Tonga team is scheduled to depart Tonga for India on September 27. The Rugby 7 squad will play a game in Australia later this month before departing for India.

Hiko said majority of the athletes are local with some drawn from New Zealand and Australia.

"We are just waiting on the individual sport federations to finalise the names of their athletes before we announce the team for the Commonwealth Games", said Hiko.
