MBF Bank Limited has announced strong financial results for the Financial Year 2025 (FY2025), marking a year of solid growth and strategic transformation focused on supporting entrepreneurs, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and women led businesses.

Despite a challenging global economic environment, MBF Bank recorded a 10.0% increase in net profit after tax to TOP 6.0 million, driven by lending growth, improved operational efficiencies, and rising digital adoption. Total assets increased by 6.6% to TOP 186.8 million, while the Bank maintained capital levels well above regulatory requirements, reinforcing its financial strength and stability.

As part of its strategic repositioning, the Bank announced a shift from a predominantly consumer focused model toward becoming a key financial partner for entrepreneurs in Tonga.

“For many years, MBF has been a trusted personal banking brand, moreover the future of Tonga’s economy lies with its business entrepreneurs, our strong FY2025 performance gives us the financial capacity to expand access to capital and support sustainable business growth of SMEs across the Kingdom,” stated Anton Rajapakse, Chief Executive Officer of MBF Bank.

The Bank introduced a major lending initiative during the year: the WSME Product in collaboration with Asian Development Bank, providing women led businesses with access to finance at concessionary rates, reduced collateral requirements, and financial literacy support. Bank intends to grow this Portfolio in the next few years to help the businesses in the Kingdom.

Commenting on the results, Chamara Jathunge, Chief Financial Officer, commented the Bank’s performance reflected disciplined financial management. “FY2025 demonstrates MBF Bank’s resilience, prudent capital management, and responsible lending practices. This strong foundation allows us to invest in technology and inclusive growth while continuing to protect depositor confidence.”

During the year, MBF Bank also completed a major upgrade to its core banking system, enabling real time processing, enhanced digital banking services, and improved security to international standards.

Looking ahead, MBF Bank reaffirmed its commitment to financial inclusion and announced plans to expand financial literacy and SME support programmes in 2026.
