A 29-year-old man from ‘Utulau died from electrocution on Friday 13 March 2026, Tonga Police confirmed.

Tonga Police stated today that, "This incident marks the second recent fatality involving electrocution, highlighting the serious risks associated with handling electrical equipment and appliances."

Police urged the public to exercise extreme caution when dealing with electricity and electrical devices, and do not to attempt to repair or handle electrical faults themselves.

“For complex electrical issues, the public is encouraged to seek assistance from a qualified and licensed electrician to help prevent further tragedies.”
