Following this morning's magnitude 7 earthquake, Nomuka Island in Ha'apai experienced a temporary disruption to both electricity and communications. Nomuka Town Officer, 'Elenoa Moala, told to Matangi Tonga that these services were restored within half an hour after the earthquake.
'Elenoa Moala said the outage occurred around 1:22 am, shortly after the largest earthquake. "Fortunately, both services were restored less than half an hour later," she said.
Tonga Communications Corporation (TCC) CEO, Sione Veikoso, confirmed that TCC communications in Nomuka are back online. However, he noted that the network might experience congestion if usage is high.
Tonga Power Ltd's main office in Nuku'alofa and their Ha'apai office have reported no major damages.
