Samoa’s Vaivase Tai gave Veitongo FC a challenge when the two teams met at the OFC Men’s Championship League Day Two, at Teufaiva Stadium in Nuku'alofa, yesterday, 20 February.
The local boys from Veitongo resisted, and produced a star goal keeper, Semisi Otukolo who skillfully blocked three goals during the second half.
Vaivase Tai's goalkeeper, Osa Savelio, also performed well in defending their goal. In the first 11 minutes, Elias Kendler was set to score his first goal but was immediately blocked by Savelio, who recovered quickly after losing balance.
The match ended with the undefeated teams tied (0-0). This means that the Cook Islands team, Tupapa, has regained a chance to fight for qualifiers this Friday 23 February. The Veitongo FC will play Tupapa. Vaivase comes up against Vaiala Tonga on Friday
Hemaloto Polovili told Matangi Tonga that they're confident in winning on Friday. However, if it comes down to Veitongo and Vaivase both winning, the team that gained the most points will be named champion.
Both teams have a 4-4 standing with one win each and a tie.
