SPBD celebrates $200 million microfinance milestone [1]

Celebrating a milestone, reaching $200 million pa'anga in microfinance loans disbursement, the South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) aheld an event for its clients at the St. Andrew's School Hall on 15 December.
Established in 2009 in Tonga, SPBD is the largest microfinance organization in the Pacific Islands, where it aims to eradicate poverty. They providing microfinance loans to empower women in poor rural villages with the opportunity to start, grow and maintain, sustainable income generating micro enterprises, building assets, as well as offering mciro finance for home improvements and childhood education.
The Governor of the Tonga National Reserve Bank and guest of honor at the event, Tatafu Moeaki, said that SPBD played an important role in Tonga as requesting loans are very difficult to do with banks.
"It's good that everyone in the country can have access to money, especially those who are less fortunate," he said.
In November 2019, SPBD celebrated a double milestone, reaching its 10th Anniversary and $100 Million Pa'anga in loans disbursement.
