New postal equipment and vehicles were donated by the Australian Government and the people of Australia through Australia Post, to Tonga Post yesreday, 31 August.
Tonga Post will soon begin to deliver letters and small parcels to businesses and households utilizing the electric delivery vehicles and motorbikes donated.
The Prime Minister, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku said Tonga appreciated the support of the Government of Australia.
“These new equipment were based on the urgent needs of Tonga Post in order to improve our service to the people of Tonga,” he said.
The motorbikes will help Tonga Post to overcome some of the challenges in delivering letters and small parcels directly to businesses and households.
He personally thanked Ms Tanya Thornton and Mr Collin Hindle of Australia Post, for the expertise and hard work in negotiation to ensure the new equipment was delivered safely to Tonga.
The equipment and training is delivered as part of the Pacific Postal Development Partnership, a three-year agreement between the Australian Government, Australia Post and Pacific Island postal services, including Tonga.
