Two donors assist Mango Island community [1]

The island community of Mango, who have been relocated to ‘Eua, received financial assistance from two donors to aid their rehabilitation, on Friday 3 March at the Palace Office in Nuku'alofa.
Mango Town Officer, Sione Vailea received $20,000 cheque from the Rotary Club of Nuku'alofa presented by Rotary District, Governor, Allan Smith.
He also received $5,000 from BSP Tonga Country Manager, Marcellina Wolfgramm Ha’apai.
Marcellina who is also the President of Rotary Club Nuku'alofa said today that Rotary continues to support the Mango community.
"The club presented the $20,000 pa’anga cheque to the town officer Sione Vailea to support the rehabilitation of the Mango community into their new home in 'Eua."
This work is part of 'Ko e Paletu’a Project' and carried out by Queen Nanasipau’u Charity. Also donated were new shirts and sandals for the Mango families.

BSP Tonga presented $5,000 pa’anga cheque to support the financial literacy program they will soon conduct in ‘Eua, which will include the Mango community. The Bank also gifted 15 BSP school backpacks to the community for the start of the school year, she said.
In attendance was the King's Private Secretary Sione Fifita, Sue Smith, Rotary Nuku'alofa members Katalina Uili Tohi and Amelia Schedlich with BSP staff.

Meanwhile, the Mango community were relocated to 'Eua in December, 2022 to live on land allocated by HM King Tupou VI.
After the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcanic eruption and tsunamis on 15 January, 2022 destroyed their homes and livelihood on the small island, they were immediately evacuated from Ha'apai to Tongatapu.
The Paletu'a Project is led by King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau'u to build new settlements for the hundreds of people of Kanokupolu and Mango, who were severely affected by the natural disasters.
Mango's re-settlement technical design component is under the Paletu'a Project. While, Government rebuilds the houses for the Mango community.
