Tonga Police on Wednesday, 1 February at around 1:00pm, responded to the road accident, where the victim from Tatakamotonga sustained severe injuries, after being hit by a moving vehicle.

Police allege that a 52 year old driver from Haveluloto was heading west and driving without due care. While overtaking the vehicle in front, his vehicle collided with the victim who was crossing the road.

Police said that medical reports from Vaiola Hospital stated that the victim would undergo an x-ray examination today, as he was believed to suffer some internal injuries, where he was hit.

Magistrate Mafi ordered that the driver be detained in police custody until the medical examination result is released.
