New MP elected for Tongatapu 8 [1]

Johnny Gratten Vaea Taione won the Tongatapu 8 By-Election with 743 votes and secured his seat in the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

The Electoral Commission results showed Taione had a clear lead ahead of Viliami Sisifa who came in second with 577 votes, during a By-Election on 19 January. 

Sosefo Hehea came in third with 409 votes followed by Sipaisi Kutu with 168 votes. 

A total of 1,900 voters turned out to vote.

The four candidates contested the seat vacated by former Tongatapu 8 People’s Representative, Semisi Fakahau who passed away last year.

Taione from Vaini is a first time MP.
