Tonga’s Declaration of a Health State of Emergency will enter its second year of enforcement, under a monthly renewal starting from 8:00pm today up to March 15. This means the State of Emergency has been in force for a full year, since it was first declared on 12 March 2020.
Tonga’s Declaration of a State of Emergency is renewed starting from 8:00pm today, Monday February 15 for another month to 8:00pm on Monday 15 March 2021.
The Health Emergency was declared due to the continuous spread of CoViD-19 around the world.
It was first declared by the Prime Minister, Hon. Dr Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa on March 12, 2020 and has been renewed regularly since.
Curfew continues
Meanwhile, the CoViD-19 national restrictions, including the night-time curfew and social distancing requirements, including the number of people allowed to gather indoors and outdoors, and health guidelines for hygiene were also renewed.
Night-time curfews continue to be enforced from midnight to 5:00am by Tonga Police and His Majesty’s Armed Forces.
Other Covid-19 restrictions also remain the same.
