Tokomololo GPS wins Hihifo soroban competition [1]

Youngsters from Tokomololo Government Primary School won the western (Hihifo) district soroban competition today, the last one for Tongatapu.
Only 70 students from 13 Government Primary Schools (GPS) competed in written, oral and flash examinations. Winners of each category for classes 3, 4, and 5 were awarded prizes at Te'ekiu.
In second place was GPS Pea and Houma GPS finishing third.
The next district competition is scheduled for ‘Eua next month.
Soroban competitions were held in Ha’apai and Vava’u last month. Winners from each district will compete at the nationals in March 2021.
Due to COVID-19 the number of participating students were limited this year.
The Ministry of Education and Training and Embassy of Japan have been holding the district competitions since 2010 supported by the Japan International Soroban Diffusion Foundation, Tonga Soroban Education Association and JICA Tonga Office.
