Tonga’s Ambassador to Japan, HE Tevita Suka Mangisi presented his credentials to Japan's Emperor Naruhito on June 24 in Tokyo.
Kyodo News reported that new Ambassadors to Japan presented their credentials to the Emperor. The formal ceremony, marking the arrival of foreign envoys to their post, was held for the first time since the end of a three-month coronavirus pandemic suspension.
The Emperor and Ambassadors of Tonga and Rwanda wore face masks and refrained from shaking each other's hands to lessen the risk of infection.
The ceremony was held in the Imperial Palace's Matsu no Ma room.
The Tongan and Rwandan Ambassadors were scheduled to present their credentials on April 9, but the event was canceled, after the Japanese Government declared a State of Emergency due to the pandemic.
